This is a cool app

June 21st, 2011 · 125 Comments

I don’t blog about iPad/iPhone applications too much, but I’m willing to make an exception here. I use FL Studio as often as I can (on the PC) to create a quick song or just to lay down some nice ambient tracks. I’ve been using it since its 3.0 iteration and it is now up [...]

Christmas was O.K.!

December 25th, 2008 · 367 Comments

We travel quite a bit and are used to spending our Christmas’ in some pretty out-of-the-way locations. Hence, the name of this blog, right? Since my wife is also not used to celebrating Christmas anyway, it’s kinda hard to get the whole Christmas tradition going and even harder to get some Christmas spirit. This year [...]

The Search for a Christmas Tree

December 13th, 2008 · 64 Comments

We have this old craptastic Christmas tree that people haven’t geiven me a lot of flak over these past years. It’s one of those fiber-optic plastic trees. It stands about 4 feet tall with plastic pine needles which glow different colors. Inside is a light bulb illuminating the fibers through a rotating color wheel. It’s [...]

A Look Into Brasilian VIP Service

July 15th, 2008 · 67 Comments

We have an account in a large bank here in Sao Paulo. It is actually connected to the ABN-AMRO bank system, one of the largest international banks. I think that they’re headquartered in Holland or somewhere. Since I have my salary transferred there every month, I’ve been given “gold status” meaning that rather than taking [...]

Got an appointment – gotta leave!

March 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

This was the story of the day in my section. Right around lunchtime, one of my colleagues stood up and proclaimed, “I have a dentist appointment! Gotta leave!” The person next to her also stood up and proclaimed, “I have a doctor’s appointment too! Gotta leave!”A couple of funny things about this. First of all, [...]

Walking on the East Side

February 8th, 2008 · 118 Comments

I find myself in Berlin, the eastern part to be exact. I came here for a fruit and vegetable growers and shippers festival that is held each year. Booth after booth of the most perfect-looking fruit and vegetable specimans that you will ever see – they only pick the best to bring of course. The [...]

Singapore

January 14th, 2008 · 4 Comments

6 minutes to go on my one Singapore dollar at this internet station. Short entry. Arrived at the brand-spankin’ new Terminal 3, opened a week ago. Beautiful and clean, like much of the rest of Singapore. We left most of our bags at the left baggage place to travel light. Headed for the train. Walked [...]

Indonesia – Day 15

January 13th, 2008 · 18 Comments

Today was our last day here. So, we celebrated by going to the mall. (–insert sarcasm here–) We actually needed to go to get a few last-minute things done. The wife grew her hair long to show it to everyone here (it really was nicely-grown), and so since everyone had seen it she cut most of [...]

Indonesia – Day 14

January 12th, 2008 · 9 Comments

Today we decided to go to the big department store that we had gone to so many numerous times in the past when we lived here, Pasa Raya. Most of the clothing that I’d bought, most of the souvenirs, just about everything from Indonesia came form this store. Since it has everything, why go anywhere else? Pasa [...]

Indonesia – Day 13

January 11th, 2008 · 96 Comments

Another stay-at-home day today. Well, actually, we did go to the mall, a different one this time, as the wife wanted to look for some CD’s, DVD’s and to shop for all of those spices and things that she needs to cook Indonesian food. We packed up on pounds and pounds of that stuff! I [...]

Indonesia – Day 10

January 8th, 2008 · No Comments

Today was a stay-at-home-do-nothing sort of day. That is about what we did. I played some badminton with the kid and the brother-in-law, just hitting the shuttlecock around. A group of performers with a monkey came around and gave a little show. The boys played a little homemade gamelan set while the monkey strutted around playing with props. Was fun to watch not only them but also the throng of kids following them around the neighborhood. I took a video which I’ll post [...]

Indonesia – Day 9

January 7th, 2008 · 8 Comments

We went to the local mall again so that I cold pick up my new glasses. They were both nicely done at a good price – most impressive. The kid go to play again in the indoor playground for an hour. He loves that place. We shopped around in the department store, just looking around, and I came out a couple hundred dollars poorer but with some nice shirts to show for it, including some Polo, which are licensed very cheaply here in Indonesia. Went back to the house and lounged around again. There truly [...]

Oh, Spare me the Excitement

October 1st, 2007 · 122 Comments

Today marked the first day of our new, big, consolidated Latin America region. Management touts it as being the next logical  step in our development and that it makes a lot of sense strategically as Central America has so much in common with South America. Together we are stronger than our sum and that going forward will be an exciting time and we [...]
